Rest Felt Like Failure Until It Saved Me
Recovering Perfectionist

I used to earn my rest.
Or at least, I thought I had to.
The dishes had to be finished.
The emails answered.
The laundry folded.
The project completed.
Then...
Maybe...
If there was time...
I could rest.
Except there was always one more thing.
One more responsibility.
One more reason why I had not done enough.
So I kept going.
Long after my body had asked me to stop.
Until one day..
My body stopped for me.
Not dramatically.
Quietly.
Through exhaustion.
Through brain fog.
Through tears that arrived for reasons I couldn't explain.
I had mistaken burnout for dedication.
Healing taught me that rest isn't something we deserve after proving our worth.
Rest is part of being human.
The earth rests every evening.
The seasons rest every winter.
Our hearts rest between every beat.
Nature never apologizes for its rhythms.
Why did I?
Today, I no longer ask?
"Have I done enough to rest?"
I ask,
"What do I need so I can continue living well?"
The answer is not always productivity.
Sometimes it is sleep.
Sometimes it is laughter.
Sometimes it is doing absolutely nothing.
And I have learned that doing nothing is not the same as being nothing.
REFLECTION
You are not a machine.
You are a Soul having a human experience.
Rest accordingly.
