The Power of Sitting Alone
Strengthening Your Relationship with Self: Solitude & Self-Connection

There was a time when silence made me uncomfortable.
Not because silence was loud.
But because it was honest.
When the television was off.
When the phone was down.
When there were no distractions left.
I was left alone with myself.
And I wasn't sure I liked what I would find.
So I stayed busy.
Constantly.
I filled every empty space with noise.
Not because I enjoyed the noise.
But because I feared the quiet.
The quiet asked questions I wasn't ready to answer.
How are you really feeling?
What are you avoiding?
What do you actually want?
Healing changed my relationship with solitude.
I began taking walks without headphones.
Drinking tea without scrolling.
Sitting on my porch without an agenda.
At first, it felt strange.
Then it felt peaceful.
Then it became sacred.
I discovered that solitude and loneliness are not the same thing.
Loneliness is feeling disconnected.
Solitude is feeling connected.
Connected to your thoughts.
Connected to your spirit.
Connected to your truth.
Today, some of my most meaningful conversations happen in complete silence.
REFLECTION:
The relationship you have with yourself determines what silence feels like.
If silence feels uncomfortable, it may be inviting you home.
